How Orthodox and Chassidish Families Stream Music

Music streaming habits in the Orthodox and Chassidish Jewish community highlight distinct cultural preferences and generational shifts. To explore these patterns, Mispar surveyed Orthodox and Chassidish Jewish Americans, revealing a dynamic landscape where Jewish music platforms resonate strongly with younger listeners, while global leaders like Spotify continue to dominate overall.

Methodology

We surveyed 180 members of Mispar’s exclusive panel of Orthodox and Chassidish Jewish Americans. All respondents were over the age of 18 and English-speaking. Participants were asked:

“Which platforms, devices or technology do you use to stream music?

The open-ended responses were coded into four categories: Jewish streaming, Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube.

Recruitment Strategy

Participants were recruited from Mispar’s proprietary panel, which is composed exclusively of Orthodox and Chassidish American Jews. Respondents received panel points redeemable for a Visa gift card as appreciation for their time.

Findings

Among the youngest listeners—those in their 20s—Jewish music platforms reached nearly half of the audience (48%). In comparison, Jewish streaming platforms drew 29% of listeners in their 30s and 28% of those in their 40s. Spotify outperformed the combined audience of the top six Jewish music platforms (JewishMusic Stream, Zing, Naki Radio, 24Six, Yiddish24, and JMusic.me)

Conclusion

These findings highlight a clear generational divide in streaming preferences within the Orthodox and Chassidish community, with younger listeners embracing Jewish music platforms while mainstream services like Spotify maintain broad dominance. Understanding these trends is essential for tailoring content and outreach to each audience segment.
